First Argentine-German AgTech Contest

This year's AgTech contest has ended!

During our final (virtual) event on August 15, 2023, the winning startups were chosen by 4 judges that have great expertise in the startup world and in the agroindustrial sector. Congratulations to the winners!

Below you find more information about the winning startups from Argentina and Germany.

Winners from Argentina

1st Place: UNIBAIO

UNIBAIO accelerates the world's transition to a more sustainable way of producing food. We develop nano-vehicles based on natural compounds and circular economy to improve agro-inputs performance. Our particles encapsulate the active principles of pesticides to release them over time. This allows to increase their effectiveness and reduce their application doses.

2nd Place: CALIGENIA

We are taking the circular economy of nature to the next level by leveraging the power of biotechnology in organic amendments and microorganisms. At CALIGENIA we transform organic waste into BACTERCHAR, an innovative product emerged by a combination of an ancestral soil amendment with the latest scientific knowledge in biotechnology. The application of BACTERCHAR to the soil improves its physical-chemical properties and increases microbial activity.

3rd Place: WIAGRO

At Wiagro, we believe that we are an important part of a digital transformation process in the agricultural sector worldwide. Smart Silobag® is a solution that enables remote monitoring of the conditions of stored grains in silobags and conventional silos using IoT devices and a web/mobile platform for visualization. Smart Barge® is a tool that allows for remote control and monitoring of grain quality and safety during maritime transportation. It utilizes IoT devices and a web-based visualization platform accessible on both PCs and smartphones. Smart PH3® is a tool that allows you for remote measurement and control of phosphine (PH3) fumigation in grains using IoT devices and a web-based visualization platform accessible on both PC and smartphones.

Winners from Germany

1st Place: SmartCloudFarming

At Smart Cloud Farming we use satellite images, ground truth data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to develop innovative and advanced analytics solutions. We help agricultural stakeholders to measure, monitor, and visualize soil and agricultural production at scale. It is the right tool to help you make informed decisions regarding soil management, carbon farming and regenerative agriculture.

2nd Place: Plantilizer

Plantilizer is a company founded to bring science to agriculture, developing efficient tools for the production of conventional and organic crops, reaching the quality and productivity standards demanded by the market. Since agriculture with low environmental impact is no longer enough to reverse the negative effects of human activities, we develop solutions for crop production with a positive impact on the environment. We make biofertilizers by synergistically combining the key properties of biochar with plant growth promoting, nutrient fixing and solubilizing microorganisms to promote plant health and productivity.

About the contest:

The First Argentine-German Ag-Tech Contest was aimed at technology-based companies oriented to increase sustainability in the agricultural sector. The contest promotes technologies by startups that were founded within the last 10 years and contribute to sustainability in the agricultural sector of both countries. The startups had to work in one of the following verticals:

  • Monitoring: technologies that enable data integration and traceability in agriculture/livestock.
  • Soil health: technologies to measure and improve soil health.
  • Machinery: digital solutions for agricultural machinery to demonstrate reduced input use.

The two winning startups (one from Argentina, one from Germany) will win the opportunity to travel and implement their technology in a test field in the other respective country for two weeks and will be accompanied by experts, while the project is being carried out, validating its use and functionalities. The second and third place participants will receive five mentoring sessions by one of the Organizers.

The management of the contest and the awards are financed by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and organized by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH, responsible for the execution of the Argentine-German Dialogue on Sustainable Agricultural Innovations (DAAIAS), in collaboration with the Argentine-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Argentina). The Argentinian Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and The National Institute of agricultural Technology (INTA) will provide technical-scientific advice.
